Bridal Makeup Q/A

Q 1. - How far in advance should I book my make-up trial?
Answer - You need to book your makeup trial at least 2 weeks prior to your wedding date.
Some brides may like to consider having their trial in the same weather conditions that they could reasonably expect to encounter around their wedding day. So, if you want a Summer wedding, think about having your trial done in hot weather. The same idea applies for Spring, Autumn and Winter. Have an idea of the look you would like to achieve for your wedding. Many brides have makeup color preferences and you will need to voice your likes and dislikes before your makeup trial. I suggest that brides look at good quality photographs in Bridal Magazines and have their favorite pictures ready to show me upon my arrival for their makeup trial. This will help us establish an easier communication. Please put on a white colored top so it would be close to the color of your gown.

Q2. - What make up look is best for my Wedding Day?
Answer - Every makeup is individualized to meet your requirements, however makeup for the bride is usually best when it is soft and feminine. Some brides have themed weddings and will need make-up to match with the theme they have chosen.  It is important to be really open and honest about what you like and don't like and this is discussed before the makeup trial and also on the day of the trial.

Q4 - What makeup is best for photographs?
Answer - The style and design (colors) need to be more intense than for everyday appearance due to the effects of lighting. The face can be drained of color by a high percentage leaving you looking washed out. Also, the use of glitter or shimmer may show up as a " flare" on the finished photograph.

Q6 - How far in advance of my wedding day should I start a good skincare routine?
Answer - You really need to start paying extra attention to your skincare routine at least six months prior to your big day.

Routine
  • Cleanse: Find a cleanser that works with your skin type and wash your face twice a day (am & pm).
  • Exfoliate: Slough off dead skin cells at least once a week to pave the way for better product absorption.
  • Treat: Whether you are concerned with acne, wrinkles dullness, hyper pigmentation, and or all the above, treat your skin with products that contain specific ingredients to solve every problem.
  • Hydrate: Soothe and soften skin immediately after showering for maximum hydration.
  • Protect: No matter what your skin type or concerns, protect you skin from future sun and environmental damage with an antioxidant-packed moisturizer and a serious SPF.
*Remember to also exfoliate and moisturize your elbows, feet, hands, legs and shoulders. These areas of your body may be on show depending on the style of your wedding dress.

Diet
Remember that the beauty of your skin doesn't only depend on the external skin care products you use.
  • Consider drinking at least two liters of water every day.
  • Limit alcohol which can dehydrate even the youngest looking skin.
  • Eat plenty of green vegetables.
  • Eat at least 30 - 35 gm's of fiber from food daily. Use a tasteless fibre supplement if you have trouble eating the amount of fiber you need daily. Benefiber from the supermarket can be added to drinks and cooking.
  • Boiled water with a fresh squeeze of lemon juice taken before breakfast will also help your liver keep you healthy and your skin glowing.

Sleep
Apart from the drinking lots of water and eating healthy food there is nothing better for the beauty of your skin than a great sleeping pattern.
  • Cellular repair takes place while we sleep, resulting in smoother, more radiant skin. When we are sleep deprived, our skin takes on a pasty, puffy, and more wrinkled appearance.
  • You must take all makeup off before going to bed no matter how exhausted you feel as leaving it on ages the skin quite drastically. You are not only removing makeup you are washing off any harmful pollutants that may have landed on your skin throughout the day.
  • The skin permeability also increases during sleep, thus the benefits of topical antioxidants increases, giving new meaning to the term beauty sleep.

Q7 - Will I need to have any beauty products with me on my wedding day?
Answer - Yes, it is a good idea to have a lip liner, lipstick, a clear lip polish and possibly translucent powder. However, when makeup is applied correctly it will stay put even in hot weather. Lipstick is the one item that will need to be re-touched during the event.
• Also, consider a small tube of toothpaste and toothbrush and / or Breath Freshener.
